Maintenance crews at the Indiana Department of Transportation that use a trailered air compressor in their work found that the air hose would drag on the ground and wear out prematurely. This custom-designed configuration uses a sign post to support the hose, keeping it off the ground and reducing the need for workers to bend and lift the hose, which is heavy and often hot from use. Previously, the agency had to replace the hose three or four times per season; with this innovation, the same hose can be used all season.
Benefit and Implementation
By using the same hose all season, the agency saves money. There is also less potential injury to workers and increased productivity.
