Adjustable-Height Manhole Covers
- Roadway/roadside
Innovation
New pavements can leave manholes lower than the rest of the roadway. An innovative process developed by the Idaho Transportation Department allows the height of the manhole covers to be adjusted without removing the existing infrastructure. Using makeshift tools, including an inner-tube inflated to the right size, crews fill the cavity with concrete and reveal a perfect hole for the manhole cover.
Benefit and Implementation
This is a cost-effective and safe innovation for adjusting the height of compromised manhole covers.
