Snow that accumulates on traffic signals can obscure the red-green-yellow light cycle and create hazardous conditions for road users. This innovation, adapted from New York State DOT, consists of adding cones to the lights to protect them from snow while still allowing wind to pass through the housing. These are manufactured by Snow Proof Signals LLC, and cost approximately $195 per light.
Benefit and Implementation
The cones increase the visibility of the lights to improve road user safety, and eliminates the need for maintenance workers to brush snow off during winter weather events.
